“Psych Tigers” is the solo music project of 16 year old Sam Perry. The idea was conceived in 2011 whilst in the studio recording an EP with his surf punk band “Beach Arab”. Whilst writing songs for the EP, strange musical ideas began to form. What started out as 13-minute psychedelic delay heavy jams, quickly started to form songs.
Many a song was written and he decided to take the project seriously. He made a Facebook page and a Bandcamp page under the moniker “Psych Tigers” and recorded and released his first song “Glitter”.
To his surprise the song received a fair deal of attention in the blogosphere and was played on numerous New Zealand “indie” radio stations. Driven by this unexpected success he recorded a 7 track EP in his bedroom over the course of a few weeks.
The EP is laced with numerous influences and genres from psychedelic/surf/pop to aggressive lo-fi/garage punk.
