Lead guitar man and vocal maestro Tim, along with Beat master Chris and Thunder bass Talon provide a unique blend of Classic but hard hitting rock, infused with groove and a twist of the blues.
The trio have been making themselves well known in the Christchurch rock scene, playing with many of the local favourites, as well as winning a fan-based poll to open for NZ/UK band I AM GIANT.

The Bats
A band - since New Year's eve 1982. Same 4 people still writing, recording, performing, making videos and enjoying each other’s company, the Bats have evolved from being described as country folk music with a sardonic city edge through to indie pop/rock - many think of the Bats as never changing. In and out of fashion several times without trying. The world revolves around The Bats and young initiates fall in love when they discover Bats gems from the past in their parents record collection while their parents have moved on to their latest Bats release.
Since New Year's Eve 1982 the same line-up has survived without break-ups, without re-unions, with new songs constantly being added to their repertoire (thanks to healthy song writing from Robert Scott) and then being recorded - 8 CD's with no repeats and still receiving 4 star reviews in the likes of Mojo and UnCut for new albums ..
Moonpup
Skymachine
Blending together falsetto melodies and glamorous beats, New Zealand alternative band Skymachine has created a sound that is heavily influenced by past eras, and thrust into the modern day. At the wheel is producer and songwriter Brydon, who is joined live by a band of his good friends and accomplices.
Originally formed when a friend needed a band for a show at a local venue, Skymachine developed around an old MPC and some 808 samples. Over the last two years, the band has played shows all over the country, including festivals such as Festival One, Samstock, and Artbeat, while spending the majority of their time writing and producing.
Recently the band released their first single, ‘Getaway’, recorded at The Sitting Room in Lyttelton with engineer Ben Delaney, and is working hard on their second release, due out soon.
August Fields
Anyone who has seen one of August Fields’ high energy shows will know that what they bring to the stage is crowd-engaging power pop tunes with foundations in punk, rock and gospel. For those not lucky enough to see August Fields in the flesh, their debut singles, 2 Into 1 and Back To You, have just been released. There will be further releases in the coming months and for live shows, details of tour dates for spring and summer will be on social media.
The Band’s beginnings
Although not conceived in a field, and not any time in August, August Fields consists of five members from very different parts of the world, each being able to call on their unique cultural and musical experience. With all five members being song writers, each member brings individual ideas and songs to the band, with the band as a whole adding its twist and tone to it.
The Band
Zoe - Lead Vocals
With her roots in gospel, this South African powerhouse has a voice that leaves audiences gasping and keeps the boys of the band in line.
Colin - Lead Guitar / Backing Vocals
Forged in the highlands of Scotland, Colin was formerly guitarist, vocalist and song writer for well-known Scottish indie act, Dead Sea Souls. Colin brings a unique style of lead playing which is a force to be reckoned with.
Andy - Rhythm Guitar / Backing Vocals
After spending years behind his guitar on the small English Channel island of Jersey, Andy brings to the band his passion and talent for song writing, and his skill as a guitarist which makes his playing seem effortless.
Will - Bass / Backing Vocals
The only guy in the band without facial hair, despite living in Canada (where we thought plaid shirts and beards were a must), Will makes up for this lack of overt display of his masculinity by his sheer talent on his bass, with the kind of groove that Herbie Hancock would want in a player.
Oscar - Drums
Holding down the beat is Oscar, the only Canterbury-born member of the band, who spent time in Switzerland, training with the world-renowned Top Secret Drum Corps. His approach to drums is very rudiment-driven, yet still has room to breathe and groove.
Kentucky Fried Children
Hailing from Christchurch and the greater Canterbury region, Kentucky Fried Children was formed in late 2012 as a chance for Sammy Jay Dawson (Bass, Vocals), Jayden Bowley & Glen Dwyer (Guitar) to tip their hats to the Blues, R’nB and Southern Rock music that has inspired them.
Performing locally in a list of venues as varied as the artists they paid homage to, Kentucky Fried Children began to forge their own unique sound. Combining the styles of the Mississippi Delta Bluesmen, Chicago’s Chess Records, The British explosion, 70’s Classic & Southern Rock and the bands own love for a diverse range of contemporary artists such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Rage Against The Machine and Them Crooked Vultures.
The winter of 2013 saw the addition of Frazer Charlton on drums, as well as Kentucky Fried Children’s entry into The RDU Round-up, a Christchurch music competition hosted by the RDU radio station, in which the band would finish second place.
With the line-up secure, the four-piece began to write their own original music inspired by the Artists that had influenced them to play music together in the first place.
To date Kentucky Fried Children have grown from strength to strength, establishing themselves as one of Christchurch’s most outstanding acts, playing alongside artists including, Devilskin, Beastwars, Von Voin Strum, Ekko Park, Pieces of Molly and Skelter, as well as headlining a number of their own shows.
Seth Hamilton
The Get-Down with Seth Hamilton, 6.30 til 8pm Saturdays, RDU98.5FM Christchurch- brought to you by CBD Bar, 208 Madras Street.
The Get-Down is about straight up party vibes. It casts genre boundaries aside and seeks to bring a broad array of fresh killer beats from across the globe. Everything from hip-hop mash-ups, funk remixes, iconic bootlegs, full force dancefloor killers, the latest in breakout sounds and anything else that you’d possibly feel the need to “Get Down” to.
Seth Hamilton has been a longtime figure in the scene, early 2000s were spent at Heaven Nightclub, then moved on to Mansion, from there he leapfrogged around the corner to The Concrete Club, where some might argue he had one of the most successful residencies in CHCH history, 6 years that were only able to be stopped by seismic forces. Now he’s got a weekly spot at CBD bar on Madras Street, as well as regular appearances for The Node, UCSA, M*A*S*S*I*V*E, two consecutive years at Rhythm and Alps and whatever else seems to fall in his lap.
Plenty of experience playing the long set taught Seth that people don’t want to listen to the same shit all night, they’re looking for a change up. A shift in energy. A lift in dynamic. Big drops, tempo changes, unexpected moments of impact that come seemingly out of nowhere. An ethos that no doubt helped him to be selected to compete in the NZ Final of the Red Bull Thre3style Competition in 2012, an experience that saw him tapped on the shoulder to put together and run the RDU Jägermeister Decknology DJ Competition in late 2012- some have said the most successful Decknology to date.
If you want to rave, you want Seth Hamilton and “The Get-Down” on the job.

Terrible Sons
Terrible Sons is the moniker for husband and wife Matthew Putra Suranta Karo-Karo Rumahgalo Richard Barus and Lauren Barus, who is more regularly known as the singer and songwriter L. A. Mitchell.
The songs that make up their forthcoming album, produced by David Long, were mostly unfinished doodles on Garageband, late-night scribblings and unrelated tales about life in a much changed and shrunken city after the Christchurch earthquakes. Folk songs with a little bit of Gris-Gris, Art Blakey and a bit of Emmylou. Two voices, a piano, an acoustic and a drummer who closes his eyes while playing.
